Fukigaeshi, was a part of a Samurai's helmet (Kabuto). The original purpose of the fukigaeshi was to prevent and protect a downward sword blow by the opponent.

By the fifteenth century, they were greatly abbreviated, and were made up only of the top two lames with a mild sweep backward.
